Free resources you can use to improve your business today
They say you have to spend money to make money. Well, in today’s world, spending money isn’t always an option. You want your business to grow and be better, but there just might not be any money to invest in that pursuit.
But there is such a plethora of resources online that the old adage doesn’t necessarily ring true anymore. You don’t have to spend money to make money, or at least not a lot of it. That’s why we’ve put together a list of free or inexpensive resources you can use to improve your business acumen.
Whether you want to learn something new yourself or train your staff up, there are plenty of sites out there for you. The Open University has a sizeable library of free business courses you can take. Many of them are introductory but would work well for anyone looking to start their own business.
The Khan Academy focuses on more academic topics, such as maths or science, but would be useful if you need to train anyone up to a high school level of education. For more business-related courses, look at HubSpot and their wealth of options. Failing that, you can find pretty much anything you need on YouTube if you do a bit of searching.
Every business needs a website. And it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg to get one set up. You can use Wix to create a free website, same with WordPress, although you would have to pay for a unique domain to look professional. Thankfully, that’s relatively inexpensive too; if you take a look at some options, you’ll usually find website domain hosting for a handful of pounds per month.
You can then populate your new site with plenty of high-quality free images from stock image sites such as Unsplash and Pexels. If you need to do some light image editing, Pixlr is a simple online editor you can use. If you need something more heavy-duty but don’t want to shell out on Adobe’s full suite of tools, take a look at Affinity, who have very similar products except you pay once and then own them forever.
If you want to get your name out there, you can use some of these marketing tools. Mailchimp is free if you send fewer than 12,000 emails to 2,000 subscribers per month. Then there’s LinkedIn, a social networking site for businesses, that you can sign up to for free. It’s a great way to expand your network and talk with like-minded professionals.
